Online GP video consultation
A video consultation is a private GP appointment held over a secure video link instead of in the clinic. You book a time, we send the link, and you talk to a GMC-registered GP from home, work or wherever you are in the UK. Prescriptions, sick notes and referrals can all follow from a video appointment.
When video works well
Video suits problems the doctor can assess by talking to you and, where helpful, looking at something on camera: coughs and colds, hay fever, skin rashes and moles you can show clearly, urine infections, medication reviews, mental health check-ins, contraception advice, results discussions and fit notes for work.
It is also the quickest way to get advice when you are travelling or working away, or when coming to Palmers Green is the difficult part. Many patients use a video appointment first and come to the clinic only if the doctor needs to examine them in person.
When the doctor will ask you to come in
Some things cannot be assessed properly on a screen: abdominal pain, chest symptoms, anything that needs listening to your chest or heart, injuries, ear problems in young children, and lumps that need a hand as well as an eye. If the doctor thinks an examination is needed, they will say so and help you book a clinic appointment or a home visit, and the video fee is taken into account.
Video is not for emergencies. If you or someone with you is seriously unwell, call 999 first.
How it works
Book online and choose a time. Shortly before the appointment we send a link by email. Find a quiet, well-lit place, keep any medicines you take to hand, and have your pharmacy's name ready if you might need a prescription.

Privacy
Consultations are not recorded. Your notes are held in our clinical system in the same way as a clinic visit, and only the doctors and staff who need them can see them. Our privacy notice explains how your information is used and your rights under UK GDPR.
Questions patients ask
Yes, where it is clinically appropriate. The doctor sends a private prescription electronically to a pharmacy you choose, and the pharmacy charges its private price for the medicine. Some medicines cannot be prescribed without an in-person examination.
Yes. A GP can issue a fit note after a video consultation if they consider you unfit for work. It is emailed to you the same day.
A phone, tablet or computer with a camera and a decent connection, and a quiet, well-lit place. The link works in a normal browser.
Rejoin using the same link. If the call cannot continue, the doctor will phone you on the number you gave when booking.
Yes, with a parent or guardian present. For babies and young children with breathing symptoms or high fevers, the doctor may ask to see them in person.
There is no charge to cancel or move an appointment with the notice shown on our pricing page.
